Hello There!

Do you like movie and/or tv (usually Spongebob) references? My name is Franco, and I am a motion designer based in the Greater Toronto Area that specializes in 3D and Motion Graphics, with an education in Graphic Design. When I'm not working, I'm watching a movie (mostly 3D animated and/or Sci-Fi), playing video games, or learning something new! I absolutely love experimenting with new tech, but I also seem to have pretty bad luck so spending a weekend diagnosing/repairing some device is a very common occurrence.

Anyway, let's connect! You can find me on LinkedIn and... sorry that's pretty much it for now. Regardless, you can find me on LinkedIn using the button in the navigation bar above!

Why Motion Design?

Many of my ideas have been inspired by movies, and my career is no different. It started back in high school, when I watched Pixar's Inside Out. While I connected with the concepts of suppressed emotions and fear of change, I was also heavily inspired by how animation was used to tell a story that resonated with audiences and especially me. Fortunately, I had "dabbled" in 3D when I was 10 or 11 being the child prodigy that I was. By dabbled I mean I made a pipe from Mario out of two cylinders, and then promptly never opened the software again until high school, but we all have to start somewhere right?

I never really considered design a career option initially. My original plan was to aim for either computer science or computer hardware engineering, but after I started exploring graphic design, and then later on Blender/motion design, I was hooked. Now I combine my eye for graphic design with my technical knowledge in motion design to bring static designs to life in a way that is not just seen, but remembered.

My Creative Process

"Measure twice, cut once." I think that sums up my process, because whenever I get a project, I first spend at least a few hours just imagining how the end result should look and feel before creating anything. Over the years, I have discovered that my best office space is in the shower. What can I say? The inner machinations of my mind are an enigma.

My Software Experience

I pride myself on constantly learning and experimenting, so I have built up quite a broad software arsenal. Here are some of the relevant (and some not so relevant to design) pieces of software I am familiar with!

  • Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Animate, XD, Lightroom, Acrobat)
  • Blender 3D
  • Cinema 4D
  • Autodesk Fusion
  • Unreal Engine
  • Twinmotion
  • TouchDesigner

  • vMix
  • Audacity
  • Google Web Designer

  • Affinity Design Suite (Designer, Photo, Publisher)
  • Apple Pro Apps (Final Cut Pro, Compressor, Motion)
  • Microsoft Office (Powerpoint, Word)
  • Apple Work (Keynote, Numbers)
  • MacOS, Windows, iPadOS

My Movie/TV Choices

Will this help me get hired? Probably not... but because many of my designs have been inspired by movies/media, these may give some insight into who I am as a designer.
